When Lesley Rae Dowling (LRD) first played this song to her producer, Terence (Tully) McCullagh, he was not sure if she had recently been on holiday to this mystical North African land, or if she was travelling in a fantasy world.  Lesley is an avid reader and she could have come up with the images she paints, inspired by her literary pastime. Even her signature song, which we know as The Spaniard. She registered it simply as, Spaniard!  This song is thus, Morocco , but we have added the little catch phrase from her lyrics to differentiate it from the first release version. Back catalogue lined up for streaming. LTE have secured a distribution deal with the Irish electro New Wave outfit, Tiny Magnetic Pets (TMP) and will start to issue their back catalogue titles for streaming access shortly. The spirit of James Brown and George Clinton have been caught in this time capsule.  The French funk merchants, Critical Quartet Experience have come up with a soulful and punchy edit of a track from their debut album. This will be their first single, I Never Felt So Right. It is slated for release on 6th June 2020 on all platforms, for download and streaming. The four young men who started this outfit about three years ago are all accomplished jazzmen. The single takes inspiration from Soul and R&B aces like James Brown and George Clinton with a little jazz improvisation added. A second look at earlier work. The project to re-animate some of the best songs by Lesley Rae Dowling continues with the re-mix of  - Oh, My Love - a track from her debut album from 1981. The original production somehow did not manage to uncover the full extent of the songwriting or her vocal performance. The new version has turned the song around. Slated for download and streaming on the 22nd of May 2020, this is the third of the 2020 re-mix project releases of Lesley's songs undertaken by Terence McCullagh. If you can improve it, do so. As Terence McCullagh gets going on the restored and recovered master recordings of Lesley Rae Dowling, he discovers old gems that spark his imagination. The first remix single in this series, The Spaniard (2020), is already available. The next in line is Innocent Child, available on April the 24th. Tully has retrieved the two inch master tape from the LTE archive at the University of Stellenbosch, Music Department. He carefully cleaned the BASF tape and on the first pass on his rebuilt twenty-four track analogue tape machine, he collected and converted the individual tracks to digital files. The McCully Workshop album, I nfinity  was released at the end of last year and now the first single, post album release, has been chosen from the tracks, and it will be issued this week. The track is a Tully McCully composition called Tainted . It is best described as a Moody Blues inspired, rock ballad. Tully also does the lead vocals. There were two songs issued that pre-date the album release. LP versions of these are on the new album. (c) iTunes (no music preview until release date). Tainted is a dreamy fantasy, sparsely produced, with lead vocal set against a bluesy electric guitar. It is unlike most of the songs for which the band are known. Perhaps their debut single,  Why can't it Rain (charted 17/7/70),   is the closest comparison. The music in our heads was tainted, played by the few, we lost the life we knew. In the last nine months or so the Tin Can Discs label has facilitated the release of rock albums by Cape Town rockers, Falling Mirror and McCully Workshop . Both records are released through LTE Distribution as digital only offerings. (c) Spotify - All nine tracks are available for streaming and download.(on iTunes) The first of the two to go out was the final album by Falling Mirror. Guitarist, Allan Faull actually passed away in the studio during the recording and the project went on ice until producer Tully McCully decided that despite the setback, the record should be released. He called in singer and composer, Nielen Mirror (Nielen Marais) and finished the tracks that he could. Although only nine tracks made it to the final release stage, they are perhaps the most cohesive collection that the band have recorded in their thirty odd year career.
