Oh, My Love - Lesley Rae Dowling - remix 2020

A second look at earlier work.

The project to re-animate some of the best songs by Lesley Rae Dowling continues with the re-mix of  - Oh, My Love - a track from her debut album from 1981. The original production somehow did not manage to uncover the full extent of the songwriting or her vocal performance. The new version has turned the song around.

Slated for download and streaming on the 22nd of May 2020, this is the third of the 2020 re-mix project releases of Lesley's songs undertaken by Terence McCullagh. He is the original producer of the first release of this song.

Lesley Rae Dowling - Spaniard remixed.

Great news. Producer, Terence McCullagh, who produced most of Lesley Rae Dowling's hits has been working on the old master tapes of her recordings.  A re-issue album featuring the singer's classic songs is planned for later this year. Lesley is something of an enigma in the South African (SA) entertainment scene. Critics hailed the release of her debut recordings in 1981, as a ground breaking moment in SA pop music history. She had a meteoric rise in media profile and then disappeared from the business after four albums. More of that story later. Some of the multitrack tapes from the original recording sessions have deteriorated beyond rescue but fortunately this is not the case with all of them. It is still possible to restore parts of the missing or damaged sequences, with the aid of digital technology employed in current music production. Zayn Adam - Power Ballad Remixes - A Birthday Reminder

Zayn was not just a good singer, he had a great voice. He is remembered with this EP, which has been in the pipeline for over a year now. It reminds us of just what a great vocal stylist he was. Terence (Tully) McCullagh sent me a remix of a Zayn duet with Terri Lynn in February 2019. He had recorded the song with Zayn in the 1980s. We subsequently issued the track, I won't cry , as a single in April 2019. The sleeve of the EP (c) Mountain Records Zayn used to keep a ear open for local (South Africa based) writers for his releases. This EP includes two such songs, scouted by him. Cape based, Martin Wolf wrote I won't cry  for Zayn. The updates and improvement in sound on the first remix were a real surprise for me.  We agreed to select a handful of ballads that Tully had produced and he would remix these with contemporary sounds and some new instrumentation. The result is a five track EP titled - Power Ballads . This will go live on the late Zayn Adam's birth

Jazz Funk Merchants or Boy Band?

Wow. When I was given a pre-release copy of the music at a jazz expo last year, I was not quite sure that the work of four good looking French boys was going to be my bag. Funny how we have programmed ourselves to expect certain images for serious jazz artists. The photo accompanying the music was not what I thought a jazz quartet would look like. (c) Critical Quartet Experience 2019 Well how wrong could I be? Four young French jazz musicians who can really play, compose and look good. It's funk, jazz and fusion, sometimes with a retro feel, but these guys rock! Their debut release, titled Mental Distortion , is out tomorrow on all digital platforms. There are 6 tracks on the digital package. All original. I have a feeling we are going to hear more from these guys.
