Robin Auld with Z-Astaire, 40 years on

On the 4th of April 2024 we reissue Robin Auld's debut album for Mountain Records. Titled Z-Astaire, the name that was subsequently taken on by his backing band.

First issued in 1984 this mini-album contained only songs written by Auld and the album established him as a pop songwriter in his home country of South Africa (SA).

Recorded in Cape Town by producer Kevin Shirley, Z-Astaire was the first album to feature the line-up of Robin Auld on lead vocals and guitar, Murray Anderson on keyboards, Michael Bush on drums and Robert Hack on bass.

The band went on to have multiple top ten hits produced by Shirley for Mountain Records in mid eighties South Africa.  The first album has a variety of influences, from the west coast rock of "Going Down" and "Baby you been good", to the art rock sound of "Violent stairs" and  "Cleaning up my act"  which became a live staple. The latter will be the playlist plug track for this release.

"Baby you been good" was the bands first chart song reaching No 8 on the official SA charts on Springbok Radio, going on to become one of South Africa's most played radio songs.

Re-mastered, the album is now available across all platforms for streaming and downloads.

McCully/Mackay Prog Rock project

Terence McCullagh aka. Tully McCully, has pulled in keyboard specialist Gordon Mackay to partner with him on his first solo album.  Tully and Gordon have performed together in McCully Workshop, but what they are offering this time is very different to the sort of music they do in their band.  Tully started out recording this new material on his own and then saw that it would be appropriate to have an instrument that is featured in solos and special parts of the songs. Tully is a multi-instrumentalist with bass and guitar being his specialities.   Adding Gordon, who is  classically schooled and a  virtuoso electric keyboard player, provided just the right additional elements required for the musical style they are recording. Gordon is the brother of well known rock musician, Duncan Mackay, who made a name for himself in the UK in the 1980s, notably with the band...
