Unreleased Lesley Rae Dowling song to be a single

Dressing for the Boys is a song written and performed by enigmatic singer/songwriter, Lesley Rae Dowling (LRD).

Her producer, Terence (Tully) McCullagh had a pre-production version of her performing the song in his archive. He dug it out recently and decided to make a single out of it.  When he heard how well it turned out he said he could not remember why it was never finished before.

"I think it was around the time we were working on her Unravished Brides album, we did a quarter inch stereo take of the song. She was writing a lot of material at the time and this song somehow got forgotten", said Tully.

Written in the 1980s, it has a very catchy chorus.  One can hear the influences of the pop writers of the period in her approach. Lesley played a simple piano track to accompany her voice. Tully kept this and has thus captured that charm in his very sympathetic production.

It is something of a surprise that such a clever pop tune did not make it onto any of her albums. This release will thus be the first public airing of the work.

The cover image is a screen grab from a pic by journalist, Suzanne Brenner. She took the pic at one of the rare live shows performed by LRD, who is essentially a recording artist.

This release is the second in the "basement tapes series" of the year. The first was Tully's re-do of, I'm a Woman released in March.

The track goes live on the 7th of July 2021.

McCully/Mackay Prog Rock project

Terence McCullagh aka. Tully McCully, has pulled in keyboard specialist Gordon Mackay to partner with him on his first solo album.  Tully and Gordon have performed together in McCully Workshop, but what they are offering this time is very different to the sort of music they do in their band.  Tully started out recording this new material on his own and then saw that it would be appropriate to have an instrument that is featured in solos and special parts of the songs. Tully is a multi-instrumentalist with bass and guitar being his specialities.   Adding Gordon, who is  classically schooled and a  virtuoso electric keyboard player, provided just the right additional elements required for the musical style they are recording. McCully/Mackay reveal title track for their forthcoming second album

McCully/Mackay reveal title track for their forthcoming second album Progrock duo McCully/Mackay are proud to announce The Garden of the Snake, their new single and title track for their forthcoming second album.  Darker both musically and lyrically than their previous works, the track explores themes of exploitation, manipulation and corruption inspired by familiar myths and parables as well as the modern landscape of our ever-increasingly authoritarian world. “There’s an increasing number of laws and encroachment on individuals” says Tully.  “Levels of ever-growing red tape are suffocating creativity and expression. It’s a system that benefits the wealthy and powerful, who can buy their own justice.” The band are known for their bold instrumentation and continue to push their skills with their new material. Along with the signature synth and guitar sounds, Garden of the Snake heightens the eerie atmosphere with a violin solo. "Tully was hinting at me playing some
