Chirkutt full length album due any day now

Bangla Folk rockers, Chirkutt, have their full length album, Chirkuttnama lined-up for its international debut on the 10th of April.

The record featuring the outstanding compositional and performance talents of lead singer Sumi, has been heard only in their home country, Bangladesh until now.

‘We have never compromised when it comes to quality of our songs which is a reason why we took our time to release the albums. After the release of our last album all of us have worked really hard and finally we are ready to release our third album,’ said Sumi

Nine songs of varied mood and tempo are included in the package. The release is again made possible by a deal between award winning world music label Mountain Records and Chirkutt.

Speaking about the songs, Sumi said the band hopes to generate awareness among the young generation through the songs highlighting different social and environmental issues.
‘The songs address the disappearance of greenery from the nature because of manmade aggressions, harmful influences of technology on people and others. The songs also celebrate the power of the young generation who can do good on earth,’ said Sumi.

This release comes as the band get ready for a big break opening for the Scorpions in New Your next month. The event celebrates the Concert for Bangladesh organised by George Harrison over 50 years ago!

The line up of Chirkutt comprises Sumi (vocal), Pavel Arin (drums), Emon Chowdhury (guitar and banjo), Zahid Nirob (keyboard) and Didar Hasan (bass).

'With a very unique sound scape Chirkuttnama' is the first album of popular Bangladeshi band Chirkutt. Chirkutt released their first album in 2010, eight years after the band started in 2002. This long time was the preparation period for the flawless musical delight 'Chirkuttnama'.

Chirkuttnama album had 8 songs, the songs are 'Khajna', 'Katakuti', 'Bondhu', 'Ami Jani Na', 'Chota Nodi', 'Doyal', 'Phul Phota Gaan', 'Ghore Fera'. Of these, 'Khazna' and 'Katakuti' became very popular. Following the glorious success of the music video for the song 'Khazna' on YouTube, the Indian music channel MTV offered to promote the song and later aired the songs for a long time.

চিরকুট ব্যান্ডের প্রথম অ্যালবাম ‘চিরকুটনামা’। ২০০২ সালে ব্যান্ড শুরু করার আট বছর পর অর্থাৎ ২০১০ সালে চিরকুট তাদের প্রথম অ্যালবামটি প্রকাশ করে। এই দীর্ঘ সময় চিরকুট নিজেকে গুছিয়ে গড়া অ্যালবামটির নাম 'চিরকুটনামা'। সম্পূর্ণ নতুন একটি সাউন্ড এর কারণে শ্রোতা মহলে দারুণভাবে সমাদৃত হয় অ্যালবামটি। 

চিরকুটনামা অ্যালবামে ছিল ৮টি গান। গানগুলো হলো— 'খাজনা', 'কাটাকুটি', 'বন্ধু', 'আমি জানি না', 'ছোট্ট নদী', 'দয়াল', 'ফুল ফোটা গান', 'ঘরে ফেরা'। এগুলোর মধ্যে 'খাজনা' ও ‘কাটাকুটি’ গান দুটি ব্যাপক জনপ্রিয়তা পায়। ইউটিউবে ‘খাজনা’ গানটির মিউজিক ভিডিও ইউটিউব সাফল্য পাওয়ায় ভারতের মিউজিক চ্যানেল এমটিভিও এই গানটি প্রচারের প্রস্তাব দিয়েছিল এবং পরবর্তীতে দীর্ঘদিন গানগুলো প্রচার করে।

Lesley Rae Dowling and Tully McCully - a new single
