Tony Cox - African Guitar Collaborations

With his award winning album titled CHINA (a word used in South African urban slang meaning Friend), Tony Cox offers a collection of very fine recordings, a combination of songwriting, performance and production (by Joe Arthur) at a very high artistic level.

The album offers numerous excellent collaborations with some of southern Africa's top guitarists.

To be re-released - 1/11/2024

Here a comment from the artist -

In the backend of 2002, I wanted to create an album inviting many of my musician friends, my 'china', to collaborate with me. This turned into the album of albums, the friendship, the love, the sheer joy of performance is in every note. I had the cream of South and Southern African musical talent right there. I dived right in.

McCully/Mackay Prog Rock project

Terence McCullagh aka. Tully McCully, has pulled in keyboard specialist Gordon Mackay to partner with him on his first solo album.  Tully and Gordon have performed together in McCully Workshop, but what they are offering this time is very different to the sort of music they do in their band.  Tully started out recording this new material on his own and then saw that it would be appropriate to have an instrument that is featured in solos and special parts of the songs. Tully is a multi-instrumentalist with bass and guitar being his specialities.   Adding Gordon, who is  classically schooled and a  virtuoso electric keyboard player, provided just the right additional elements required for the musical style they are recording. Gordon is the brother of well known rock musician, Duncan Mackay, who made a name for himself in the UK in the 1980s, notably with the band  Cockney Rebel.  The two brothers worked togethe

We re-issue the original tracks on the 30th of August 2024. Here is a press release from the artist management. > Ocean Motion was Robin Auld and Z-Astaire's 2nd album for the band line-up.  Produced in 1985 by Kevin Shirley in Cape Town for Mountain Records, it yielded the number one song All of Woman, along with other top ten songs Sesheke Town and After the Fire .  The band's sound had consolidated after several tours and the release propelled them further into national prominence in their home country of South Africa, playing big shows country wide and confirming them as one of the countries top rock music acts.  The album also showcased the  wider influences of the band and Auld's songwriting in songs such as " Village is a house " and "
